General Forecasts  Minimize

On December 5, as the new Moon rises in Sagittarius -- the Archer -- it's time to take aim at your most ambitious goals and fire! A direct hit is finally within your reach.

And that's just the beginning. Later that very night, retrograde Uranus will finally go direct again, while on the 7th, fiery Mars will move into calculating Capricorn. These three events acting on top of each other are a trifecta of opportunity. You'll feel the benefit of their activities so much more when you take the initiative into your own hands.

A new Moon is always a good opportunity to start something new, and with optimistic, adventurous Sagittarius in your corner, it's time to shed any doubts or questions slowing you down. There's no time like the present to see how much you can accomplish.

Uranus is the ruler of out-of-the-box thinking. You've probably had some plans and ideas brewing in the background for the last couple months as Uranus took a backwards stroll in Pisces. Now, as the planet moves forward again, it urges you to do the same. It's time to stop meditating about your ideas and turn them into reality!

To help seal the deal, Mars, the planet of action, will immerse itself (and you!) in get-the-job-done-right Capricorn. Mars would encourage you to leap before you look, but Capricorn is the sign of practicality. When combined, the two work together to help you move toward your target in a forceful, yet prudent manner. You'll be more likely to achieve your goals if you're realistic about what you can accomplish.

So what does all of this mean? Well, obviously, it's time to take action! Whether you go for something big, like a career change, or just decide it's time to clear the clutter from your space so you can think more clearly, you couldn't ask for a better time to get the job done.

Just remember that if you make your move on these three particular days, it's not just your goals you can reach -- it could be your dreams!

Set a New Course!

On November 29, when Venus returns to intense Scorpio -- the sign where she turned retrograde on October 8 -- you won't feel lukewarm about anything! Mercury enters serious Capricorn on November 30, when your mind turns to important matters. Then get ready for the unexpected when Uranus turns direct on December 5!

November 29: Venus enters Scorpio
Whomever invented the term "soul mate" must have had Venus in Scorpio! As Venus, the relationship planet, heads back into the most intense and passionate sign of the zodiac, you're likely to feel that nothing less than a profound connection will do. Casual conversations won't interest you, and neither will people with commitment issues. If you're single, you're more likely to meet someone if you attend an event or engage in an activity that strikes a deep chord within you. Married or in a serious relationship? Choose a cause in which you both feel strongly -- and watch the sparks re-ignite!

November 30: Mercury enters Capricorn
Mercury leaves philosophical Sagittarius and enters the realm of earthy, sensible Capricorn. Your mind is done with its wandering, and now you want to nail down specifics. This is a great transit for discussing the nuts and bolts of what you want! Take a realistic approach to everything now, whether you're deciding where you want to commit your resources or which projects to take on. Because Capricorn views life with such a practical eye, while Mercury is here, make sure you don't let pragmatism cross the line into pessimism.

December 5: Uranus turns direct
Ever since Uranus turned retrograde on July 5, issues about independence have been prominent. And during these last several months, you've likely craved changes in your life that you're now ready to take to a new level. Just when you think you know what's going on, something happens to make sure you stay awake! Change is in the air. Freedom and independence are again big issues right now for everybody, which means that your individual relationship with these themes is pivotal. The more comfortable you are with the concept of change in general, the more you'll be able to utilize this dynamic energy. Don't worry that you're unsure where everything is heading -- there's no way to know right now. We're at the beginning of this transition, so don't hit the cosmic snooze alarm! Instead, wake up!  We live in a changing world. Now, it's time for you to change along with it.

An Eclipse is Coming!

On January 4th, 2011, an solar eclipse will happen in Capricorn.  The effects of an eclipse last for over a year, but are particularly active within the first 6 months.  A new moon solar eclipse is a powerful indicator of change and new beginnings in the house where it hits in your natal chart.  This surge of energy is also affected by which other planets are in angle to it and which planets in your own chart that it aspects.

For everyone, this particular one heralds a time for making a new commitment to expand global awareness and develop a more egalitarian and inclusive attitude toward our fellow humans.  This eclipse could possibly press all of us to search for communal solutions to the current global economic issues.  In June, the full moon eclipse in Sagittarius will bring these things to a head and help us all to move forward.

Upcoming is a lunar eclipse on December 21th in Gemini.  Lunar eclipses denote big change as well, but usually dealing more with culminations and endings of situations.  Think back six months ago when the companion solar eclipse happened and what has been begun in the interim.  You may see more clarity regarding those issues soon.  Often the effect of eclipses will not happen directly on that date, but can begin several days before or hit exactly a month to the day after.  Prepare yourself for a possible crisis to occur or at least something that demands to be changed.

Mercury will turn retrograde on December 10th!

Mercury turns retrograde three times per year in general.  What traditional astrology believes is that during the times that Mercury is retrograde, there will be misunderstandings, confusion, communication and travel problems, delays, breakdowns in electrical equipment, computer foul-ups, etc.

What retrograde means is that from the earth's perspective (geocentric astrology) a planet appears to go backwards.  Today, Mercury is going stationary direct which means that from earth's perspective the planet stands still before it recommences its forward motion.  Traditional astrology would now say that the foul-ups are now over and it is now OK to sign contracts, purchase computers and travel without something going awry.

From a heliocentric perspective (looking from the Sun) no planets are retrograde ever.  The focus then becomes on the angles the planets make to each other and the geometry of those angles.  As such, if you are a heliocentric astrologer, you disregard all of the warnings about retrograde Mercury.

Even in geocentric astrology, the Mercury retrograde periods are not inconvenient for everyone.  If you were born with a Mercury retrograde, the times when transiting Mercury becomes retrograde can actually seem normal compared to the rest of the time when you feel out-of-sync with the rest of the world.

I tend to use a mix of both branches of astrology in my readings.  While it is true that planets do not actually move backward in their orbit and they certainly do not suddenly shift forward after retrograding, there is no harm in being on the cautious side during these periods.  The best advice is to wait a week until Mercury is considered fully direct before commencing with the above-listed activities.
